Feb 2012 Station Report
Due to moderate
temps, WYAP is almost thru the winter without any major freeze ups and
outages. Special attention needs to made toward keeping the thermostat
turned off when overnight temps will be above freezing and set on the lowest
setting possible when colder temps are expected. Such attention should
really help with the power bill.
In January
the station added a great show, What’s the Frequency Kenneth?. With that
addition, we are now offering a great stable of veteran newscasters on
a daily basis including, Democracy Now, Letter & Politics from Washington,
Ian Masters, Aljezra News, Behind the News (weekends) and the International
Newscast. YAP is now offering about 8 hours per day of independent news
and commentary shows between 7 and midnight, Monday thru Friday.
Cold weather
and scheduling conflicts have stopped many of the locally produced programs
like AK94, Sports Circus, and Launch pad by Scottie. Thursday evenings’
Roundtable discussion show returned to the air last month with a new and
improved format of having a special guest speaker weekly. The change has
added structure and direction to the running program.
With just
a couple more basketball games to go, we’ve made it thru the season with
excellent programming and only a few instances of Frontier DSL line drops.
I think the number of drops was because the games were played on various
nights of the weeks instead of just Fridays like during football season.
Since going
on the air as WYAP we have used a free service called No-Ip to keep our
online presence up and running. Each month, someone has to renew the free
status monthly via receipt of an email and response on their web
site.. Last Friday that someone had forgotten to the update and just before
a very important B Ball game, we were knocked off the air by No-Ip. Had
it not been for Pete’s quick work, we would not have been able to air the
homecoming game.
The cost to upgrade
from free No-Ip to a paid service is around $20 per year, I plan to do
that ASAP to prevent future outages.
Last month
the each Board member agreed to approach the community for new local programming.
So far, no one has contacted the station about those much wanted additions.

STATION REPORT
March 2012
WYAP has been airing the live Thom Hartman show from noon
to 3pm Mon thru Fri. As of today the air time has changed to 3 to
6pm Mon thru Friday. During Scottie and Kayla’s after school shows, they
will have to pause the show and do their own thang followed by clicking
the go button to resume the broadcast
We also added the weekly 29 minute American Mosaic program from
Pacifica. The offering is a first person offering from people across the
USA and so far, is great.
After many years behind the mic plus pulling more than
her share during summer time shows and special events, we’re losing Kayla
in May. It’s a sad day in radio land.
Basketball season provided some of our most listened to
times on 101.7FM There were a few hiccups. Josh quit volunteering
mid season. Jerry Hubbard stepped up to the plate and did well. Bas news
is, he’s not interested in doing another season.
This year the Lady Panthers made it thru sectional and
Regional Tournaments into the States. Melinda Isacs allowed YAP to broadcast
the Sectional game without paying royalties over the objections of some
at the school. As required by WVSSAC, we did pay the $125 royalty for the
Regional game. Once again, the community came together in short order and
provided the $$$. Great!
Spring is here and time for CHS baseball action. TG is
up for covering some of the games. I on the other hand am hesitant due
to the botched up scheduling due to rain, umps showing up late, and teams
delayed for various reasons. We need to discuss this.
Celebrations and June Jams are here again. During the
three Celebrations I hope to add riding lawn mower parades. For the Jams,
I hope to establish an All Star Kazoo band which will perform as
the background band at the beginning of each show.
We are in serious need of a work part, hooking up the
EAS machine, and much more. Without additional volunteers, we’re in trouble

STATION REPORT
April 2012
Projects still incomplete include changing the antenna
over to the telescoping tower and hooking up the SAGE EAS box. Our Tele
Co connection is willing to help with the antenna move but just hasn’t
had the time when the weather is, was, dry. On the new box, it’s just a
matter of making time which is in short supply.
A dozen or so new PSAs have been added to the list in
an attempt to freshen up our offerings. Additional sponsorship and membership
inserts have been added to the playlist during the last three weeks.
Last month WYAP added a union influenced pro labor daily hour
program called Working Family Radio. After airing it a 10 times,
it’s professionally done with issues close to home since the show originates
in Pittsburgh.
Scheduling wise, we’re now doing an hour of news or documentary
laced between music offerings.
The Sports Circus Show has been off the air for the last couple
months due to work schedule issues with Brian and staff.
101.7 FM was unable to sportscast the CHS baseball season this
year due to issues with getting enough free cell phone air time to cover
the many hours of on the air.
The main drive computer went down three weeks ago and
left us off the air for about 20 hours until Pete could get to the station
and remove some bogus unwanted crap. We appear good to go now with the
unit operating A OK right now. No other broken gear to report at this time.
With Summer fast approaching, we have to start working
on the June Jams and Celebration programs. The hope is to add lawnmower
parades during each Celebration and the Clay County All Star Kazzoo Band
during each Jam.
Also, the Welcome Center was taken out of service last
fall when new neighbors moved next door to the station. After talking with
the Town Service Man, I believe we can cheaply reconnect the much needed
facility right behind the station where the sewer and water lines run toward
the ravine.
During this Board meeting, we need to discuss cost of
the Welcome Center and purchase of 100 Kazzoos. Also, we have a $1000
and $2500 grant ready to use right now. We need good suggestions
and start the ordering process ASAP to have the gear here in time for the
outdoor music season.

STATION REPORT
May 2012
It tough to say good bye to a long term YAP volunteer.
After four years on the air and at most all station fundraisers and events,
Kayla Farmer graduates from CHS this weekend and is heading off to college.
She plans to move to Putnam County preparing for her first college semester.
May 9th was her last show. She will be sadly missed.
High schooler Scottie got in the grease with his Mother and
has been grounded for the last month or so. With his summer booked solid
with Upward Bound out of county travel, no Launchpad McQuack until
this fall. Scottie says he would like to help with Jams if he’s in
town.
The Welcome Center needs to be hooked up if at all possible.
D Sizemore said he had no problem with the facility being moved right behind
the station. TT with the Town thought that location would make an easy
hook up for sewer needs.
The station is real short on funds but if we ain’t growing,
we’re dead. We need to invest in kazoos for the All County Kazoo show band.
A work party is desperately needed. Clean carpets, moved
tons of stuff under the station, clean windows, clean the lot, and move
PA system to station.
Computer 2 in the live booth crashed last week. Pete was
able to get it back up and running. The main puter is scheduled for replacement
. Maybe we should consider two new live booth computers?
YAP is also having trouble getting the web cams working; the
automated temperature announcement inserted in the playlist, and
keeping the sound card refreshed so Edgar the talking Computer head can
make announcements (keeps saying, bad sound driver)

June Jam Report
June 14 2012
So far during this season….
Our PA system is working fine. The process of getting
the audio on the radio is something else. During the Memorial show the
sound was good. Not so during the next program where a loud hum was noticed
on the dial. Pete thinks it might be related to having an “amp” connected
to the mixer board. For the June 9th program we set a mic in front of a
stage monitor. We got the sound on the radio but one listener in Ivydale
commented voices came across real loud while the music was faint and at
times, would come and go.
Volunteers musicians have all showed up on time. We have
received no comments on the $25 token gift we’re offering this year but
one musician from Weston said he appreciated the help on his gas bill.
This year YAP added the Kazoo band. After three
performances, it is a welcome addition, the crowd seems to laugh and enjoy
the players, and it’s a great way to get audience participation.
We will need to order some more of the kazoos before the end of the season.
We have four sponsors in 2012. Invoices ($50each) will
go out at the end of the month.
The WV Tourism office has provided the station several
handout brochures as well as lapel pins. Leftovers from the bingo operation
are also being handed out. We should have enough of each to make it thru
June and hopefully can restock with other freebees for the Labor day Celebration.
Whether it’s 90 degrees or 65, crowds have been light. Flyers
have been put up, the kiosk & marquee are being used, and newspaper
ads have been published. Even with weather cooperating, not sure of the
reason for the small turnouts.
The CHS concessionaires have showed each night and say they
are doing well. The first night they ran out of supplies after selling
63 hot dogs.
With Tiff (and Keith) away from service two nights, it
has been very helpful to have Fred, Elizabeth, Dave, and Pete available
to make up the shortfall.
Eagle did most of the diggin to reroute the service connections
for the Welcome Center. Unfortunately additionally shovel work was needed.
As of today, the hard part is done ($25 to Ed Deems and helper). The main
line if ready to be cut into and connected to the new plumbing.
With rock n roll planned for the final June Jam, we continue
to offer great outdoor offerings and at the right price.
Bd Meeting Minutes from May 14 2012
Present: Dave D, Elizabeth and Fred S; Pete, Andy
May 14 2012
Station Report motion by Dave, second by Elizabeth, passed.
Fred and Elizabeth agreed to donate $$ for a new outdoor basketball court.
Motion by Fred, second by Andy to go to the Bank of Gassaway
for a gap funding loan for Budget Digest grant totaling $2500. Motion passed.
WYAP will form a kazoo band for June Jam as a stage
band. Fred S will be the Band Director. 4 doz kazoos will be ordered.
Board consensus to pay the minimum bill pay outs
including the lot rent .
Discussion on approaching volunteer groups in the northern
and southern end of the county to serve as satellite stations when the
FCC opens the license widow for low power stations. Andy will approach
Lizemore and Big Otter FDs first.
No vote but consensus to donate $25 to each band that
performs during the 2012 June Jams.

Station Report Aug 2012
DHHR worker Michele Cottrell began work at the station July 27th.
Her schedule is Monday thru Thursday from 9 to 3pm. After a week or so
of training and effort, Michele is doing very well with a good on air voice.
Not sure how long we’ll get to use her, but while we’ve got her, a bunch
of new PSAa are being recorded. She also does an afternoon Michele’s Mix
show. Listen in when you get the chance
Jim Ryan continues his RoHo Show Wed and Friday’s beginning
at noon. The hour long program includes music of his choosing plus excerpts
from area newspapers and commentary. So far, a great long content show,
much needed at a community radio station.
Rounding out the summer offerings is Dave Derby who has
been averaging a twice a week, three hour show, Dave’s Time Tunnel.
The two computers in the Live Booth continue to give us fits.
Computer 2 often is in need of rebooting. That’s the unit that also drives
a web camera which has been on the fritz for months.
Our new Bose PA system has been used three times so far and
is a big improvement over the old speakers. Listeners in the parking lot
remarked what a big chance it made when put in use in June.
In the way of repairs, there haven’t been. The antenna behind
the station remains leaning after the June 29th storm. The tower at Pete’s
remaining leaning after that same storm. As for hooking up the EAS and
transmitter or checking out the generator, just hasn’t been done yet.
Event wise, WYAP hosted an old vehicle cruise in Aug 3. With
25 or more cars in the lot, beautiful weather, Dave doing the DJ duties,
and CHS girls doing concessions, it was an excellent evening for the station.
Football season is right around the corner. The sportscast gear
is ready to go this year. TG will once again head up the sportscasts
and wants to air the five home games and 2 away games (Braxton and Nicholas).
Our sponsor campaign kicks off next week. If TG can work out the two away
games, YAP needs to come up with the royalty fees and some gas money .
Welcome to Fall

Oct 2012 STATION REPORT
Since last report, our daytime DHHR worker
Michele moved to another state. We are once again without a weekday
voice on a regular basis.
Jim Ryan and Dave Derby continue excellent programming.
Program wise, in Sept, WYAP added a 60 minute independent rock
artist show called Best of British Rock; and the new 1 minute, daily,
Consumer affairs program.
A long overdue improvement came last month when YAP was
able to hold 100 online listeners at any time, 24/7. The program is called
Stream my Station and has a cost of $25 per month. Several listeners have
emailed to say how much better the football season sportscasts are now
that they can actually hear it without buffering and skipping. After this
and the basketball seasons, we can opt out of the service to save $$$.
No equipment broke in Sept. However, Pete had to go thru live
booth puter 2 and reformat the thing.
We do not have an update on the FCC plans to open the
license window.
